This trail steadly climbs from the Los Leones Day Use Trail to the East Topanga Fire Road. As you get higher, there are spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, which is only a couple miles away. The trail weaves through lush vegetation in the canyon and then up into chaparral. At the end of the trail is a clearing with a bench that looks down to the Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica. On a clear day, there’s even a view out to Catalina Island.

***When planning a visit, please note that dogs are only allowed on the Los Leones Day Use Trail. Beyond the Los Leones Day Use Trail connecting to the Los Leones Trail, dogs are prohibited.***

From the PCH, take Sunset Boulevard 0.3 miles and turn left onto Los Liones Drive. There are two staging areas, both on the right side of the road, along with multiple trailheads to the east. Fire Station 23 is on the corner.

Parked in the parking lot during the week. 10-15 cars around. I leave no valuables in my car but it was broken into and cost me $450 to replace the lock and new cylinder. Apparently there are 4-5 cars broken into daily at this trailhead. EVERY DAY!

Accidently left my wallet in my car and they broke in and stole 2 of my credit cards. Apparently this is a very regular occurrence. Love the trail but not sure i want to go back knowing my car could get broken into every time...

They stole my credit cards and 80$ in cash from my car in August. I came here again recently (End of October 2020) and didn’t leave anything in my car. They still broke into it, even though I made sure everything was locked. Also, they broke my key cylinder and that’s going to cost me 1500$ to repair. I love this trail but it’s too risky. I don’t feel safe.

June 7th, 2020 it's very crowded and about 80% are NOT wearing masks. Very sad - expect a second wave of the virus.

Response

Thank you for your comments.  I will forward the information to California State Parks who operates the Los Leones trail.

It's a wonderful hike with great views at the top. It's very narrow and needs some upkeep. Last week Aug 2019 - I went on a hike and had my wallet hidden in the middle compartment and someone broke in and stole my credit and debit cards. These robbers know what they're doing. Beware!!
