Rhus ovata, also known as sugar sumac or sugar bush, is an evergreen shrub to small tree that grows in chaparral in dry canyons and south-facing slopes. Rhus ovata is very drought-tolerant and prefers well-drained soil in a sunny location.The fruit and flowers are popular with birds and butterflies and the plant itself provides good habitat for birds.
