Lemonade Berry (Rhus integrifolia)

Rhus integrifolia

Rhus integrifolia, also known as lemonade berry, or lemonadeberry, is a shrub to small tree. It is native to the Transverse and Peninsular Ranges and the South Coast regions of southern California. The lemonade berry plant is found on dry slopes in coastal areas of southern California and northern Baja California. The lemonade berry occurs in both chaparral and coastal sage scrub communities. The flowers are a nectar source for butterflies and the fruits are enjoyed by many bird species including the road-runner.
